Intelligent signal control scheme based on intersection video images and MEC calculation

With the increasing complexity of urban traffic, the traditional fixed signal timing scheme is no longer able to effectively cope with the real-time changes in traffic flow. In order to improve traffic efficiency and reduce congestion, intelligent signal control schemes based on intersection video images and MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing) have emerged. Our solution utilizes the powerful computing power of MEC and real-time data from intersection video images to achieve dynamic adjustment of signal lights to enhance the intelligence of traffic management.

Program Components

Video Image Acquisition and Processing

HD cameras are deployed at each intersection to collect real-time data such as traffic flow, speed and queue length of vehicles and pedestrians. Through edge computing nodes, video images are analyzed in real-time to extract key traffic information.

MEC Computing Platform

Deployed on the roadside, the MEC gateway is able to quickly process and analyze the data after receiving the video image data to generate a traffic flow model.The MEC platform also supports a variety of algorithms, such as vehicle detection, pedestrian recognition, speed measurement, etc., and is able to predict future traffic conditions in real time.

Intelligent Signal Light Control

Based on the traffic flow model generated by the MEC computing platform, the intelligent signal light control system adjusts the signal light timing strategy in real time. The control strategies include extending or shortening the green light duration, adjusting the signal cycle, and even prioritizing the release of emergency vehicles under specific circumstances.

System Communication Architecture

The whole system builds a dedicated communication network through industrial switches to interconnect MEC nodes, cameras, and signal controllers at each intersection to achieve low-latency real-time data transmission, and MEC nodes can also work together in a distributed manner to achieve coordinated optimization of regional traffic.
